Can you use Pam or some other non-stick spray when making a Dutch baby?

All of the Dutch baby recipes seem to call for melting 1/4 cup er (more or less) in the pan before adding in the batter. Is the er only for non-stick purposes? Could I use some non-stick baking spray instead of the er?
