What is a good location in Washington DC/Arlington, VA for hands-on artsy/creative people?

I have a good friend who is a girl 20 years old coming to visit in Arlington, VA, and I am trying to think of things she would enjoy doing in the Arlington/Washington DC area. She likes "artsy" things, that are hands-on. Not art such as museums or theaters, but hands-on art, such as "making things." I have only lived here a few months so I hardly know where to look. Any ideas?
