HELP!!! there was a maggot looking bug going into my dogs head!!!?

My daughter came running over with her dog pomchow crying saying theres a bug going into his head I looked and it looked like a maggot in his head i pulled it and it was hard to pull so i pulled harder i heard a pop and it was a bug moving i was scared so i didn't get a good look at it anyone know what this was...it don't look like a tick picture could it be something eles i have 3 other blue tick hounds that are alot bigger and i have never seen anything like this can anyone help....
