Do aphids eat potatos? i will explain.?

i bought a bag of black kow compost and together with some other compost soil, i filled a large trash bag with it and planted a potato in it. now i see lots of little tiny white bugs crawling in and out of the soil. im uming they're aphids and that they came with the soil i bought. will lady bugs work if the aphids hide in the soil? thank you.
