My car is hpi clear but i have not paid any repayments. should i sell?

I bought a car 2 years ago and have only repayed one months payment i then broke my foot at work and the insurance paid my next instalment, i then forgot to set up direct debit to the finance company to repay, this was two years ago and have not had a letter or phone call to settle the account i have hpi the car through the A.A and RAC and a few others and everytime it comes back clear with no finance outstanding. I want to get a new car now and don't know wheather to sell or not.
