What is the meaning of the taskbar on the top of the samsung captivate? ?

I can make out the clock, battery meter and bluetooth on the right, but what's all that stuff on the left? It looks like an M, and some graphic people??? Can anyone spread some light on my confusion? Thanks in advance! Also does it have predictive text? Thanks again! Debbie
